Award Winner 2006
M a t i l d a P l ö j e l (typographer from Göteborg/Sweden) receive the Walter-Tiemann Prize 2006 for the design of the exhibition catalogue "POPPIGT, SAKLIGT, POLITISK: 1960-talets konsthantverk och design p Nationalmuseum". This catalogue depicts and explains design objects from the Swedish National Museum of Fine Arts [Nationalmuseum] in a very particular way.
The concept of the book takes ideas from traditional nature guides, combining them with an aesthetic system of presentation that makes use of colour and shape and is well thought out in terms of function. The inclusion of the objects in the museum display underlines their cultural value. The sections of the book are bound using a simple and original insertion method and all its elements are organised in a straightforward, extremely modern style. Highlighted sections of text point to further information in other places in the book, thus bringing back into the medium of print elements that have become familiar to us through the use of computers. The members of the jury were unanimously convinced of the innovative quality of the work.
