The 2008 Förderpreis (Advancement Award) goes to Lina Maria Grumm from Leipzig. Her book ìAñZ A=A (s. Identität)î deals with pictures and their legibility and the possibility of generating new fields of significance by changing the order they appear in. They emerge in interaction with concepts, the selection of which seems coincidental, and 136 book illustrations, on which coincidentally found images of iconic characters facilitate the most diverse of associations through shape comparisons, references or repetitions. Dictionary-like texts do not predefine any context but are written fabulations on the same concepts. Quotations extend an invitation without insisting on an explanation. The binding appears to follow a page order, suggests a build-up of suspense, where the balance is restored by the cited form of the lexicon. Loose, inserted copies, photos and the extremely foldable book cover try to entice you to earmark your favourite pages, to observe again outside the boundaries of the preset sequence. The author, who plays the roles of both designer and publisher here, handles the book medium in an artistic and conceptual manner. With this she continues to spin a thread that she combines with the ìDocumentsî magazine just as much as with work by Marcel Broodthaers.
